Endangered species around the country

Around the country there are thousands of species of animals that are endangered. Elaborate efforts have been made to protect them, some at the cost economic development of the areas they inhabit. But in few cases, such as with the Bald Eagle and a few other species, protection efforts have proven successful, while the survival of other species continue to hang in the balance.

The Endangered Lynx
(Denver Post Online)
There hasn't actually been a lynx spotted in Colorado for 24 years, but the state's Division of Wildlife is trying to change that by reintroducing 200 lynx from Canada or Alaska to the Rocky Mountain State. Wildlife groups, however, are skeptical that the plan is a thinly disguised attempt to avoid placing Colorado's lynx on the endangered-species list, which would severely hinder lucrative real-estate developments. It's not the first time man has tried to reintroduce an endangered species to the wild. A plan to bring wolves back to area around Yellowstone National Park has yielded a mixture of ecological and political effects. And plans to protect other wild animals in the American West have proven to be just as controversial.
